Learn To Control Your Pain

Hurting is the worst.  No one likes to be in pain, especially chronic pain.  The reason behind the pain may be irrelevant; you hurt and that is what matters.   Controlling pain is often somewhat of a guessing game.  Everyone is different, everyone’s pain is different and everyone’s reactions to medications are different.  Unfortunately for us, medicine is not an exact science.  There is no secret recipe that will stop the pain for everyone.  It is something that you will need to sit down and discuss your exact symptoms and needs with your doctor.

Is it back pain, leg pain, acute or chronic?  Different types of pain typically require different medications.    Not one medicine is going to work on all types of pain. That would be a huge blow to the pharmaceutical companies, wouldn’t it?  So first you will need to narrow down some things.  If you are looking at moderate to severe chronic pain, you may want to ask your physician about Tramadol.  One of the benefits of Tramadol is that it is a non narcotic analgesic that works very well at controlling chronic pain.  It blocks the pain receptors in your brain to intercept the pain messages being sent to your body.  It doesn’t work for everyone or every pain, but it was developed to work for long term pain relief.

It comes in many forms and many names.  It is called Ultram, Ultracet, Ultracet ER depending on the manufacturer.  Prescription Tramadol is great for treating back pain, lower back pain relief or just chronic pain.  It is a prescription only medication that you can ask your physician about.  Your doctor is the only one who knows if it is right for you.  The provider will figure out the dosing and the frequency of the medication.  Sometimes you will take an extended release medication that will allow the medicine to stay in your blood stream at a consistent amount all the time.    This will help control chronic pain better since there is no peak of the medicine working the best or valley where the medication is leaving your body. It is an effective and consistent choice for pain relief.

Tramadol can be bought at any drug store or pharmacy if you have a prescription.  You may want to compare prices of prescription Tramadol.  The online pharmacies are a great place to look at as far as finding discounted medication prices, especially if you have high co pays for your insurance.  Buying Tramadol online is an easy and convenient way to receive your medication.  Finding cheap Ultram doesn’t have to be overly complicated.  You may even be able to get a discounted rate by using your insurance company’s mail order pharmacy.   Just make certain that you explore all your options.

All in all you and your doctor will have to decide on a medication to best control your pain.  Tramadol is a very viable option for many people; you may just take the initiative and ask your provider if it is a good choice for you.

Coping With Parkinson’s Disease

When my father was 68 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. His mother had Parkinson’s as well; her case was mild compared to my father. Parkinson’s is a disorder of the brain where the nerve cells that produce the chemical dopamine are destroyed. The cause of this is unknown. The dopamine helps to control muscle movement resulting in trouble walking, coordination, body movements and tremors.

Most times Parkinson’s will develop in people over the age of 50. Parkinson’s is extremely rare in children. In the beginning symptoms of Parkinson’s is very mild and are easily overlooked. You may have a very mild shake, not constant at first and you find that you are starting to drag one foot. You may have trouble with balance and walking and as the disease develops other symptoms are clearer.

You begin having trouble starting to move like getting up from a chair or even stepping out to walk. Loss of hand movements and dexterity is what throw up a flag for my dad. He worked with his hands and he slowly saw that he could hardly pick up nuts and bolts and grabbing his tools he often times dropped them thinking he had a grip on them and didn’t.

After he was convinced to see the doctor they knew he had Parkinson’s and wished he had came in sooner. The earlier you start treatment therapy the better chance you have for prolonging the affects the disease takes on the body. His medications have slowed the tremors. His body is now in a stooped position, his movements are very slow and life is much different for him.

He no longer stands 6 foot 2 but hunched over at his waist. Driving is not something he will never do again on the road. His reaction time is extremely slow and his ability to rotate his head is next to impossible. He will drive from his house to his barn just to feel like he can do it.

We don’t know how things will be for him in a year but glad he’s still with us.

Patents on Personalized Medicine

The ability to prescribe medicine based on your specific genetic needs is not too far away. One of the questions that will arise as the technology continues to advance is who exactly deserves to have a patent on this kind of personalized medical profiling? Some of the largest companies in the biotechnology industry are already having this discussion. The real argument comes in deciding the diagnostic patents that may be violated in using different approaches to customize the care of patients.

In order to determine if certain medicines are effective, specialized diagnostic testing must be used. Many biotechnology companies want to have patents for the development of the specific methods of diagnosing certain diseases. The company that lawsuit was brought against claimed that the diagnostic technique being used was no more than a well-known natural phenomena being measured with traditional data-gathering methods. The big question for the Supreme Court is if the diagnostic testing method is being used to the point where it is no longer just recognizing a natural correlation.

The ability to prescribe the exact medication needed for person based on their distinctive genetic characteristics has long been a goal of the pharmaceutical industry. Now that the realization of that goal is closer than ever it seems like the breakthroughs will still result in some tough issues that need to be settled. The recent decision by the Supreme Court will definitely change when and if many biotechnology companies decide to patent the techniques that they create in order to test for certain diseases. Whether this is a good change or a bad change remains to be seen, but is definitely worth paying attention to.

The Hottest Jobs in the Medical Field in 2012

One of the few job sectors holding steady during our recent economic meltdown is the medical field. If you are out of work why not check out some of the careers in the medical field? Some options might require further schooling and training but depending on your current skills there may be medical field jobs that you qualify for right now.

One of the best features of jobs in the medical field is upward mobility. Jobs such as CNA (Certified Nursing Assistance) or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) can be parlayed into that of being a Registered Nurse with just a couple added years of schooling. The cost of schooling is well worth it; RN’s earn well in excess of what CNA’s or LPN’s make. The average wage for a RN was $63,750 in 2009; the top 10% made over $93,000. RN’s are in great demand and projections show the demand to be strong for years to come.

Pharmacy Technicians are in strong demand and projections show the demand will keep growing. As baby boomers age prescription medication demand is expected to increase by as much as 31% by 2018. Expect an average salary of around $35,000. A two year certification or Associate’s Degree is required to hold a job as Pharmacy Technician.

Radiologic Technologist is another hot career. A two year Associate’s Degree is required to earn an average $57,000/year salary in this job. Upward mobility is common in this career option; radiologic techs often become sales reps for imaging companies or department administrators, instructors and trainers.

These three careers are hot jobs today and if projections are correct, they will be for some time to come.

Massage is the New Medical Sensation

It used to be that only hardcore athletes and sports professionals would get massages to ease muscle and joint soreness. But now that more and more people are leading healthier lives through exercise and other more intense physical activity, regularly scheduled massages have become a way of life.

But not every massage is the same. Depending on a person’s needs (or aches and pains), the choice of massage is just as important as the massage itself. The Swedish massage is the most popular. It uses circular movements and slow, long strokes to relax the body. Shiatsu massage is similar to acupuncture, minus the needles. The fingers are used on certain pressure points to release tension. Deep tissue massage is for the people who are suffering from painful or tight muscles due to over exertion or a high level of physical activity. This type of massage will leave a person sore for a day or two afterwards as the muscles have been extensively worked on. There is also hot stone massage, thai massage, reflexology, sports massage and even pregnancy massage.

When booking a massage session, make sure it is the kind that targets the areas of need. A person who does not exercise would probably not benefit from a deep tissue or sports massage. Also check to see if there are any precautions beforehand. Certain massages are not appropriate for specific physical conditions.

Massage therapy does more than just feel good. For the thirty or sixty minutes that the massage lasts, the body is at complete rest, free of stress, movement and outside influences. The massage session gives the mind and body a chance to completely relax and let go of all the negative energy that affects a person’s physical and mental well-being.

Medical Benefits of Using Saunas and Hot Tubs

Saunas and hot tubs are utilized in many different types of therapies, from sprains to full body paralysis.  The most common use of Jacuzzi bathtubs is for muscle strains, sprains and arthritic conditions. The technology contained in many of these tubs and their massive appeal, make them a relatively low priced item, in most cases.

In many  medical clinics, you will find that whirlpool tubs, which can accommodate several people at once, are a regular part of any physical therapy program.  These and larger air bath Systems allow for pain relief, while someone is recuperating from surgery or an injury. Most of us over 50 have some sort of arthritic problem.  Studies indicate that people often wait until their in a lot of pain before seeking help.  Some rely on pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs which can often disguise the symptoms as people become more debilitated.  Hydrotherapy, on the other hand, allows for pain relief during exercise, which is such a big part of strengthening the muscles to allow more movement.  Osteoarthritis responds particularly well to heat and water.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a bit more difficult, due to the swelling of the joints which limits mobility.  There are custom saunas which can be built in such a way that a person does not have to walk in or risk movement if a limb is broken, for example. Some of these are made for a wheelchair width and the person can wheel up, open the door and wheel in.  The head remains out of the sauna area.

For those of us with normal aches and pains or tension, an air bath tub can prove relaxing and palliative.  Millions of tiny bubbles stroke the skin and the water is usually made as warm as one can stand it.  The heat alone cuts the pain by extending the bones and irritated muscles.  For back pain, there’s nothing quite like Jacuzzi bathtubs, which create a forceful flow of water from jets in the body of the tub and you can position yourself the way you wish to massage almost any part of your body.  Discount whirlpool tubs can be located all over the internet and shipped at minimal costs.  You can  compare features and pricing very easily online.

Although these tubs do wonders for those with mobility problems they are great for those who need to relax or to sleep.  I find that if I’m awake more than a half hour, after trying to fall asleep, a wonderful air bath for 10 minutes will have me snoring in no time!

Why Surgeons Choose Tramadol for Post Op Pain

Surgery is scary.  Being asleep and having no idea of what is happening to you is completely disconcerting.  Going under the knife per say is something that no one wants to happen, but for many it is inevitable. Most times, surgery is a necessity that one could not do without.  No matter what kind of surgery you are having done it is an anxious and stressful time for you and your family.

Pain is at the forefront of everyone’s mind when it comes to thinking about surgery.  None of us want to be in pain or hurting.  Obviously if you have to have surgery it is going to hurt at some level but it is increasingly important both to the patient and to the doctors that the pain is controlled as much as possible.  Controlling pain effectively is not always about taking it completely away and keeping you knocked out the entire time your are recuperating.  This isn’t a benefit to anyone.  But by controlling and easing the pain so that you can still do some activities is essential to both your physical and emotional well being.

Many doctors are now choosing Tramadol the generic form of Ultram as a top choice in pain relief.  The benefits of Tramadol are becoming increasingly noticed and preferred by surgeons across the country.  There are numerous health benefits to using Tramadol to treat acute pain vs. the typical opiods and narcotics.  Tramadol is proven to be effective against pain without causing increased respiratory depression.  This is essential especially directly after surgery when the anesthetics are still in your bloodstream. This is a much safer alternative to many of the narcotic medications in this aspect.

Addiction is also a real problem in our society as well.  Tramadol is a non addictive pain medication when used as directed. This makes it an excellent choice for treating postoperative pain once the patient goes home as well.  The fear of addiction from narcotics is real and happens quite frequently.  By choosing a non addictive pain reliever, there is little chance of adverse outcomes later.

Cost is also a bottom line for many providers.  There is no sense in prescribing a medication that you cannot afford.  Tramadol or Ultram as it is better know can be purchased easily and inexpensively.  You can buy Tramadol for cheap online or at your neighborhood pharmacy.  When you choose to buy tramadol online is a safe and simple way to make sure that you have access to your medications without the hassle of going out while you are still recovering.

Surgery is no fun, but the benefits are worth it and they can be lifesaving.  Work with your physician ahead of time to discuss what pain reliever they feel will work best in your particular case. T hey will do everything possible to make this as easy an experience as they can and a big way to do that is to effectively control your pain.
